Apply For WOBC Staff 2014-15!

Are you “into” radio? Do you want to get more involved with WOBC? Then apply to be on WOBC staff for next year! In addition to the specific responsibilities described below, each staff member is expected to attend regular staff meetings and assist with other projects (Block party? Community outreach? Cover band showcase? Mystery event? create-your-own!>!>)

Staff positions do not carry over into the next year, so each one is open. Please send a short statement of interest (name, experience with WOBC, why you are qualified/want this job) to owobc@oberlin.edu by Monday, May 12. 
 
You may apply to more than one position, and many positions have more than one slot. Also, these jobs are not limited to college students—community members are encouraged to apply.

∞ Genre Directors (Apply for Pop/Rock, Folk/Country, Classical, Electronic, Freeform, Hip Hop, Jazz, Metal, Punk, and/or International)

The genre director is primarily responsible for processing new music in their genre that the station receives and managing their genre’s section of the music library. Genre directors lead a weekly workgroup of station members to process new records and file old records within their genre. The genre director is responsible for posting regularly about new music in their genre on the WOBC blog. Genre directors are also expected to recruit DJs to apply to shows within their genre, work with the Promotions Directors to raise awareness about their genre and assist the Program Director in evaluating applications within their genre. Knowledge of musical styles in a particular genre and familiarity with the community of musicians and aficionados of that genre on campus is a plus in this position.

∞ News Editors (PAID POSITION)
The news editors are responsible for the production of WOBC news segments and ensuring that WOBC news segments are released daily. A new editor will have experience with sound editing software (Pro Tools, Logic, Audacity, etc) and be prepared to train reporters in how to conduct interviews, write scripts for stories, and edit audio. The news editors are responsible for assigning stories which are expected to cover events on and off campus. News editors should expect to commit ten hours or more to the position per week. You can receive Practicum in Journalism credit for this position.

∞ Public Affairs Director
The Public Affairs Director is responsible for producing Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and other content for the radio or website that is relevant to the communities within WOBC’s broadcast area. The PA Director works with the Program Director to build relationships and work collaboratively with organizations, events, and projects in Lorain County. The PA Director should have enthusiasm for community media and some skills in audio production.

∞ Vinyl Director
The Vinyl Director runs a weekly workgroup to explore WOBC’s vinyl collection and produces blog posts of particularly good finds. The Vinyl Director also maintains and organizes the vinyl collection and the corresponding digital database.

∞ Promotions Director
The Promotions Director is responsible for raising WOBC’s profile among college and community listeners. The Promo Director coordinates the production and display of advertisements for station events, the design and dispersal of station merchandise (t-shirts, stickers, etc) and organizes promotional material that the station receives.  The Promo Director must be in contact with local venues and the Music Director/genre directors, in order to receive free tickets for DJs and listeners.  The Promo director is also responsible for coordinating the production and distribution of each semester’s program guide.

∞ Music Librarian/Traffic
The Librarian is responsible for keeping the WOBC music library organized and accessible. The Librarian should be familiar with WOBC’s music collection and work to keep WOBC’s digital record of music accurate and up to date. The Music Librarian holds a weekly workgroup and is responsible for taking initiative to maintain the library as well as initiate new projects to improve it. The Music Librarian organizes and runs the Filing Party each semester. The position requires picking up new music in the mail from the Wilder desk, unpacking and inputing album information into the WOBC music database, and sorting albums into appropriate genres for workgroups.

∞ Web and Computer Manager (PAID POSITION)
The Web Manager maintains all of the WOBC computers and manages the WOBC blog, webcast server, digital music database, and WOBC’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. The Web Manager is responsible for training WOBC members how to use the website and how to use WOBC’s digital audio production resources. The Web Manager should have some experience with web design, social media, and audio production. A working knowledge of web design (HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript) and server administration are highly sought. This may be paid position (inquire for details).

∞ Station Historian
The Station Historian is responsible for researching and documenting the history of WOBC. This includes organizing our reel to reel collections, sorting and digitizing old documents, and working to codify and document the overall history of WOBC.

∞ Outreach Director
The Outreach Director’s main priorities are to build connections with the Oberlin and Lorain County communities, to seek additional alumni support for WOBC, and to increase the station’s listenership.  The Outreach Director works to develop relations with WOBC alumni and produces a newsletter to send to the greater Oberlin community. The Outreach Director is also responsible for coordinating partnerships with local businesses and organizations, and for organizing public events like the Block Party. The Outreach Director should also work to achieve a fruitful relationship between WOBC and the Oberlin public school system, and will maintain our Outreach Hour on Saturdays.
